Energy consumption has become a huge topic of conversation throughout the entire world and that is no exception for our industry, including how we operate things. Our operations should be as vital as the output we have for our customers. Because of this, the environment is more than just a concern to us, it is something that we need to protect to serve our customers better in the future and above all else, the world we are living in today. To give a better picture of the operation outlook of how we operate, it is best to dive into the details on the ecosystem we have that generates the whole flow of sustainable energy that we implemented for our factory.
One of the things worth mentioning is the biomass that we used to generate steam in our factory. We are using wood and agriculture waste as biomass in many of our operations. To give a few examples, these functions consist of the exhaust box, cooker, evaporator, and UHT. Although we know that the wood is basically waste from other operations or output, it is best to utilize all of the components to the best of our abilities to generate the best value for our environment per element that we used. We intend to utilize all the elements to its fullest use without leaving anything out as waste that would burden the environment.
Our factory always uses the best of technology available to ensure that all our operations are efficient and enough for the value and the vision we are trying to achieve for all our customers. Biogas is another piece of the puzzle that helps us in this case. It is a gas that generates from our water treatment plant which goes through the boiler to generate steam that will be used by the factory at the end. It signifies how much we intend to build the ecosystem that works for every stakeholder, especially our Earth.
Carbon footprint is a legitimate concern for many factories in various aspects such as public relations and the organization’s values in general. The more we expand our factories, the more we need to be vigilant and admit that the cost of the environment will be skyrocketed by many folds in the immediate future. Thus, it is vital to reduce the amount of carbon in the aspect of operations that we do, to make a better future for all our stakeholders. One thing to note that it is a benefit for the employees who work in the factory so that they do not have a hostile work environment while working in our factory. What we care about the most is our family in which our employees are surely one of our utmost concerns.
For the past two years between 2017 to 2018, we have established a research case study in partnership with the University of Phayao. The case study is about the release of greenhouse gas from the production of canned pineapple in which the study has been taken for a period of 10 months to thoroughly measure the result to ensure the scientific integrity for the study. This case study helps the company in learning a variety of things that the business is doing in terms of the environmental impact that is happening without proper implementation and fine-tuning of the entire production pipeline of the canned pineapples. After the case study has been completed, the company fully utilize their advice given as the result of the case study and apply most if not all the recommendations by the researchers of the university. As a result of the implementation and countless hours of discussing with the researchers regarding their advice, the company has been awarded with a Green Industry Award of Level 2. This is one of the proudest achievements for the company in general where it proves how much dedication and hard work of everyone involves in making a change toward a better tomorrow. Reducing carbon footprint will always be one of the company goals to achieve a greener environment for the world and to leave a legacy that is valuable for all.
As a part of company’s initiative for a greener environment for the world, including the reduction of cost for the factory, solar roof is a belief and the embodiment of a step in the right direction that could hit two birds with one stone. This project is one of the greatest achievements that starts from a single discussion on how to make a greener tomorrow while reducing the cost of production in the factory. If the cost of production could be reduced by a significant margin, there would be more room for the company to divert the budget to other projects that could generate more revenue and make the carbon footprint lower than what it is today.
The study of this project has been going on for the past three years from 2018 to 2020. During these years, the company has acquired substantial knowledge on how to implement this kind of technology and how much impact it would make to the entire ecosystem in general inside the factory, including how much cost would potentially be reduced as the result of this application. It turns out that after the implementation of this solar roof project, it is estimated that the cost of electricity would be reduced tremendously by 25 to 30% which is an enormous margin. Alternatively, it would imply that the solar roof would be able to supply one-third of the electricity needed for the whole production line. This means that the company would not just save the cost of production on goods but making an impact on clean energy that could potentially substitute the need to pay the electricity bills altogether. It will be worth exploring in the future to signifies the core values that the company has in its vision. The solar roof would be the pilot project for many more projects to come in clean energy.
